Guernsey: Liberation Day 2015

Saturday the 9th of May marked the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Guernsey, after five years of occupation during World War II.  On this day every year the Island comes together to celebrate and remember.  People really embrace the celebrations and dress up for the occasion.

Every year there is a big parade along the sea front with marches, bands and vintage cars.  We even had an appearance from our very own Winston Churchill!

Once the parade was over we took the opportunity to have a look around the parked up vehicles.

During the course of the day there were helicopters circling with Soldiers waving to the spectators below.

There were also other activities like chalk drawing and French Market Stalls.

I hope you all had a lovely Liberation day!
