I was approached by the lovely people at Aloha who asked if I would share my top tips for achieving that perfect healthy summer glow all year round. As it is now much colder it is time to start thinking about changing up our skin care routines. My skin suffers most during the colder months as I have naturally dry skin which is prone to excema and sensitivity so during the winter I like to keep my skincare products as natural as possible.
Most of the products I use here you will be able to find in you local supermarket.
Something I have always sworn by is the power of oats and their skincare benefits. Oats have very hydrating properties, assist to sooth sensitive skin and return it to it's normal ph level. The oat itself is great because the particles cling to the dirt and impurities allowing them to be rinsed away.
Taking a small handful in a tight fist I hold this under warm running water. There are a lot of nutrients in the milky white water that comes out of the oats at this point so I use this to wet my face before taking the now soggy oats and gently rubbing these over the face. This acts as an exfoliant and cleanser in one. Once done just rinse away. Try not to let too much go down the sink as it could clog the drain.
In the winter my lips get particularly dry so i like to make my own lip scrub by using green and sugar. To do this I make myself a green tea as I normally would and allow it to cool until it is cool enough that it will not dissolve the sugar. Then putting half a teaspoon of sugar in a small dish I add a couple of teaspoons of the green tea until it is a nice consistency. I then take a small amount of the scrub on my finger tips and rub in circular motions over the lips and rinse off. The best thing about this scrub is that it tastes good and once you are done you gan drink the rest of the tea.
Everyone loves a good face mask! My favourite is natural greek yogurt. It does not smell great but you get used to it and you can see and feel the difference straight away. It is very hydrating and leaves the skin feeling plump and full. It's also very brightening.
To finish, I use the Aveeno skin relief cream.
It is not all about what you put on your skin though, what you put into your body also has a huge impact on your skin. For some great healthy recipes check out Aloha's website.
My final tip is to always have a nice warm bronzer in your makeup bag.
